What Made the News in 2007…

The Surrey Rebels would like to thank all of its volunteers, sponsors and supporters for making its inaugural season in British Columbia Intermediate Lacrosse League “B” Division a great success.  We were able to recruit a great group of ALL SURREY RESIDENT players, often had home crowds close to 200 spectators at Cloverdale Arena, were financial viable, and finished the season with an 11-12-1 record – tied for sixth place in the 12 team league.  We managed to beat out established teams from Port Coquitlam, Ridge Meadows, North Shore, Burnaby and Vancouver – quite an accomplishment for an expansion team!

Individual highlights included Scott O’Coin finishing the season as the team leader in goals (26) and points (48) – good for 20th in overall league scoring, Cory Bailey leading the team in assists (27) and Jeff Geyer finishing second in overall league goaltending (87.75% save percentage, 6.13 goals against average in 949 minutes played).

Special thanks go out to Tim Fielding and Miles Griffiths for their time and dedication as assistant coaches, Vaughn Easey for being the best trainer and “holler guy” a team could ask for, Joe Toneff for raising over $1,500 through sponsorship and a successful pub night, and Christine Geyer for making sure all bills were paid without overspending our tight budget.  We would also like to thank Surrey Minor Lacrosse and especially its 2007 President, Beth McLucas, for the unwavering support this team received throughout the season.  Beth was there when Sandra and I approached the League Chairman back in November 2006 to seek admission to the league, managed to get us great floor time and recognition at Cloverdale Arena, and was there as one of our loyal fans when our season ended.

Of course we must extend a big thanks to our team manager and alternate governor, Sandra Prance, who kept all of us in line, ensured we had uniforms for the season, made sure we had off-floor officials for all home games, proudly sent in all player registrations and winning game sheets, and made sure the league commissioner earned every penny of her honorarium!

2007 was a great way to start this franchise and we’re looking ahead to continued success in 2008!
