What Made the News in 2010…

In 2010, the Surrey Rebels completed its fourth season in the BC Intermediate Lacrosse League and would like to again thank all of its volunteers, sponsors, fans and the Surrey Lacrosse Association for their support.  While the on floor product failed to match the excellent performances in 2009, we still drew good crowds to our games and received a lot of positive press.

We never seemed to catch a break all season and after starting 3-3-1 in its first seven games, proceeded to go 1-11-0 the rest of the way, including losing its final seven games, and finished the campaign with a franchise low record of 4-14-1 and failing to make the playoffs.  Individual highlights included Joey Puchmayr finishing 11th in league goaltending and Brandon Baldo leading the team in scoring with 22 points.

I would like to thank our head coach, Padraic Lawrence, his assistant coach/trainer Andrew McBride and our team manager Sue Finley for enduring an even more frustrating season.  We will be graduating 20 players from our program (Baldo, Brandon St. Pierre, Thomas Henry, Brandon Sigmund, Andre Culjac, Timmy Tammen, Kevin Vandenbossche, Spencer Gilbert, John McBride, Garrett Ewasiuk, David Goodwin, Clayton Finley, Kale Millard, Alex Lamb, Denis Vezina, Vaughn Readman, Brodie Serka, Mike Meldrum, Riley Brady-Springer and James Main) and expect the majority to be out at Junior Rebels training camp in 2011 vying for the vacant roster spots.  We expect all 5 remaining Intermediate players to be back for the 2011 season and hope that the majority of 10 graduating Midget players will be out at training camp.  In order to make sure we have at least 20 players signed, we will be recruiting hard in the off-season to bring in free agents as well as Surrey players who took 2010 off.  We will also be recruiting a new coaching staff as coach Lawrence will be moving up to take over the Junior Rebels bench.

I would like to express my thanks again to Dennis Ewen and the SLA Executive for their continued support of our senior programs.  Both Christine and I will stay on in our team capacities for one final season in 2011 and hope to recruit new volunteers for both teams to ensure their viability for many years to come.

Frank Geyer, Governor/General Manager – Surrey Rebels Intermediate Lacrosse Club (2010)
