Current Season

About the Junior Program

2019 marked the return of Junior B lacrosse in Surrey, a program which extends the box lacrosse experience for those 16 to 21 year-old players who have graduated from the Midget ranks.

Players living in Surrey and White Rock (or areas without B2 teams like Vancouver, Richmond, Prince George and  Washington) born from 2002 – 2006 are eligible to play for us.

We have had excellent volunteer support from parents, players and other family members – something that is vital to the success of a non-profit organization. We are always recruiting for volunteer positions and if you, or somebody you know, may be interested in being part of a winning organization, contact us at junior_rebels@surreylacrosse.com.

Our League

The Surrey Rebels Junior Lacrosse Team is a member of the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League (Tier 2 Junior B), a division of the British Columbia Junior B Lacrosse League. As such, the team is bound by the mandate of the WCJLL constitution and will adhere to the guidelines as they pertain to the team. The league currently operates teams in Abbotsford, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, New Westminster, North Shore, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Ridge Meadows and Surrey. The league is sanctioned under the BCLA Senior Directorate.

The Tier 2 Junior B lacrosse season runs from late April to mid-July with the top 4 teams advancing to best-of 3 playoff rounds and then Provincials during the BC Day long weekend in August. The regular season consists of 20 games. During the regular season, the Junior Rebels will normally have 3 sessions per week – one home game, one practice, and one away game. Home games are Friday nights with an 8:00pm start at Cloverdale Arena. Away games are on a variety of nights with most games starting at 8:00pm.

Team Selection

The WCJLL mandates that Junior teams carry up to 25 players on their roster. Team membership is not automatic and interested players must attend pre-season training sessions in order to be considered for the team. Team selection process starts in March, continues until the beginning of the playing season, and is open to all residents of the City of Surrey. Pre-season training information for the current year of play will usually be posted on the team website in January. All participating players will be evaluated on their performance during the pre-season. There will be a selection panel to observe and evaluate the player’s performance over the duration of the pre-season, with final team selections being made at the beginning of the playing season.

Once a player is selected to the team, if the player is 19 years of age or older, the player will then sign the BCLA player registration card and become a registered player with the Junior Rebels, at which time the player will be expected to pay a registration fee. If the player is under the age of 19 years, a parent or guardian must complete the form and again payment of the full registration fee must be submitted at that time.

Note:  Players may be added or released from the roster up to mid-June of the regular playing season.

Player Eligibility and Registration

We are hoping to have a full roster of 25 players (including 2 goalies).  For anyone not familiar with the Junior Program it works differently than Minor.

Players from Surrey and White Rock are eligible to try out for any Junior A or Junior B1 Team (unless you were drafted by a specific team). If you do not make the team you are hoping to play for and want to play B2 then you will have to play in Surrey or be released to play for another organization.

With tryouts for Junior A and B1 teams starting soon you do not have to sign up for Surrey but please let us know if you are interested and we will keep you updated. You are still welcome at practices and will need to complete the registration process which includes an Insurance Waiver.

If you have no intention to play A or B1 and just want to play B2 you can register now. If you do sign up now and make an A or B1 team you will receive a full refund.

We are excited to have Coach Ray Lagace returning who wants to build on our fun and competitive seasons in 2021 and 2022. We would like a committed group of 25 and will select players who want to play full time.

Registration will be made here: https://go.teamsnap.com/forms/349522. The fee is set at $500 with a $250 refundable deposit for helmets and gloves and a maximum $135 for team swag, if you don’t already have it (bag, t-shirt, polo shirt, cap).

Please email us if you wish to stay informed about the upcoming Surrey B2 Lacrosse season.

Once a player is signed to the Junior Rebels, the player is expected to pay the registration fee in full, becomes the property of the Surrey Rebels organization, and is no longer eligible to play for any other team unless formally released by the team management.

Registration fee for the season is due and payable in full before the signed player will be permitted to play in any league games.
Players are encouraged to bring in sponsors for the team to offset their registration fee.

Our History

The Surrey Rebels Junior B Lacrosse Club joined the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League in 2006. The first season saw Rebels with only a handful of players that played an outstanding season but because of the low numbers the team finished in the lower end of the stats. The second season saw a marked improvement with the team finishing in the middle of the division standings.

Our team management and coaching staff have worked closely with Surrey Lacrosse Association to ensure that Minor players are able to continue to play the great game of Lacrosse in our community on into their adult years. We strive to have highly competitive teams at our Junior level to give our young Rebels teams to cheer for and to want to play for one day.

Intermediate Rebels

Prior to the 2018 season, 16-18 year-old players played in the BC Intermediate Lacrosse League A or B Divisions, with 18-21 year-olds either playing in the BC Junior A Lacrosse League or the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League (Junior B). The Surrey Rebels competed in the BCILL B Division from 2007 to 2014, with teams making the playoffs in its first three seasons and in 5 of 8 seasons overall and Rebels players named to the league All Star Team three times (Jeff Geyer – 2008, Brad Olson – 2009, Mikey Lemond – 2014) and boasting one league MVP (Brad Olson – 2009). The team suspended operations to to lack of players in 2015, and in 2018 the BC Lacrosse Association voted to merge the Intermediate program with the Junior program to match the rest of the country, with the former Intermediate A teams now “Junior B Tier 1” the former Junior B teams now “Junior B Tier 2” and the former Intermediate teams now “Junior B Tier 3”.
